With just a few months to go until the Rio 2016 Summer Olympics, we decided to take a closer look at the games’ identity.
Inspired by Brazil’s harmonic diversity, the vibrant identity encompasses characteristics of Brazil’s people and Rio’s contagious energy.
Within the above image you can see iconic details such as Christ the Redeemer, the Lapa Arches and the Pedra da Gávea Mountain. These landmarks are buried amongst fluid waves and energetic features. The multi-coloured palette is symbolic of Brazil’s diverse nature and warmth.
The in-house team behind the identity noted how the design was more than just a branding exercise, defining it as a source of ‘inspiration, bringing people and cultures together.’
We think the identity appropriately captures everything symbolic of Brazil, and Rio in particular; people, places, colours, nature, landscapes and landmarks. It is bursting with curves comparable to mountains, rivers and lakes.
The designs will adorn all aspects of the games, from uniforms and interiors to products and venues. We can’t wait to see the design executed across these platforms in the coming months.
